Guest Perspective ? Cloud Certification Permeates the Channel ...

Posted: 2/20/2012

The following commentary is provided by ???Terry Erdle, CompTIA?s EVP for Skills Certification.

Just 10 years ago, the concept of being ?cloud certified? seemed about as unusual as the 1980s idea of practical mass cloud computing.? Neither seemed realistic.? But we all know the technological storyline since then.? Cloud computing is very real and being cloud certified is a virtual necessity for the coming years in the IT industry.

A cloud computing certification from CompTIA has been available since late last year and is being completed by more IT professionals each day.? Dubbed ?Cloud Essentials?, this certification is rooted in data from key IT industry organizations, including Google, Microsoft, IBM, Amazon, Cisco and Citrix, just to name a few.

More than half of the organizations surveyed for CompTIA?s August 2011 Second Annual Trends in Cloud Computing study said their investment in cloud computing will increase by 10 percent or more in the coming year.

The Cloud Essentials certification tests individuals on an already wide array of critical aspects of cloud computing.? The topics include:

  • Steps to Successful Adoption
  • Business Value of Cloud Computing
  • Impact and Change on IT Service Management
  • Characteristics of Cloud Services from a Business Perspective
  • Risks and Consequences
  • Technical Perspective/Cloud Types

Security in the cloud is a topic on everyone?s mind and just becoming familiar with the risks and consequences is a big step in the right direction when it comes to keeping your organization?s data safe.

What makes CompTIA?s Cloud Essentials certification essential for IT professionals is that it was developed by their industry colleagues.? Working with ITpreneurs, a provider of competence development solutions for IT best practices, CompTIA was able to make Cloud Essentials cover the important topics real IT professionals encounter everyday with cloud computing.? The certification demonstrates an individual knows what cloud computing means from a business and technical perspective, as well as what is involved in moving to and governing the cloud.

For more information on the Cloud Essentials certification, visit the CompTIA Certifications webpage.? There you can find out test details including the number of test questions and recommended level of IT experience before attempting the exam.

In addition to credentials for individual IT workers and comprehensive market research, CompTIA offers the IT industry a broad selection of other resources related to cloud computing. ?The CompTIA Cloud/SaaS Community addresses the challenges and opportunities in the emerging field of cloud, computing and application delivery. ?CompTIA IT Channel Training provides a comprehensive portfolio of live workshops, on-demand webinars, printed and downloadable training guides and other resources for companies active in or contemplating entering the cloud computing market.
