Tampa Arts Trail: Exhibit gives aerial view of Florida

Published: July 6, 2013

If you've ever wondered what Florida looks like from the sky, now's your chance to find out.

In an exhibit called "Aloft," the talented aerial photographers of Aerial Innovations in South Tampa give us an intriguing look at Florida from 2,000 feet off the ground. The natural symmetry of the landscape translates into beautiful large-scale abstract portraits that can be interpreted as familiar or other-worldly.

In "Miracle Grow," by Aerial Innovations owner Colette Eddy, the landscape becomes a patchwork quilt in blocks and designs bursting with color.

"I love the distorted beauty of objects, spaces, colors, shapes, geometric patterns," she wrote in a news release. "They are an opiate for my eye and an attraction for the camera."

The play of light and shadow at that elevation creates intense light which translates nicely to the large scale of the works, hanging through August at TECO Public Art Gallery.

Meet the artists and see their works at an opening reception from 5:30 to 7: 30 p.m. Thursday at the TECO Building, 702 North Franklin St. The exhibit is up through August. To see more visions from above, visit www.aerialinno vations.com.
